Washington Tech Workforce Coalition Establishes Industry Committee to inform talent development

Industry Committee

The Washington Tech Workforce Coalition proudly announces the establishment of its Industry Committee, the centerpiece of its efforts to build a purpose-built tech workforce defined by industry needs. The committee is open to all employers interested in participating in the activities of the committee.

This Committee will inform talent development by recommending curricula and training improvements to meet demands for jobs in Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, IT & Cloud Computing, and Software Development. Key focus areas include:

  • Talent Acquisition Methods: Innovating and refining recruitment strategies to attract top-tier talent.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ensuring that training programs provide the technical skills and project-based learning needed for job seekers to be successful in today’s tech landscape.
  • Workplace Effectiveness: Emphasizing the development of durable (soft) skills necessary for success in dynamic work environments.
  • Accelerated Productivity Gains: Implementing initiatives to enhance early career productivity and smooth transitions into new roles.

The Industry Committee will foster collaboration among tech industry leaders to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Essential components to be developed include:

  • Pre-employment Strategies: Developing project- and work-based learning experiences to prepare candidates before they enter the workforce.
  • Curriculum Alignment: Working with educators and community-based organizations to ensure that curricula are in sync with industry priorities.
  • Adapting to Rapidly Evolving Technologies: Addressing emerging technologies, such as AI and Cybersecurity, to keep the workforce competitive and future-ready.
  • Support for New Hires: Providing continuous support for new employees to help them transition smoothly and succeed in their roles.

The formation of the Industry Committee underscores the Coalition’s dedication to leveraging resources, applying best practices, and fostering a shared vision for talent development in technology. Initiatives will be guided by comprehensive market research and active employer participation to ensure programs are built on competencies required in today’s tech landscape.

Industry Committee activity takes place at a quarterly recurring meeting open to all participating employers and organizations representing employers. This provides a space for fellow employers to collaborate to address their shared needs. Please Register to join the first Industry Committee meeting virtually, on October 8, from 1pm – 2pm.
